Small Animal Charity — "Why Fostering Saves More Lives Than You'd Think"
Every foster home we place an animal in does something a shelter kennel simply can't: it buys us a kennel space back.
One foster home can help dozens of animals a year, not just one. When a foster carer takes in a nervous dog or a litter of kittens too young for the shelter floor, they're not just helping that particular animal — they're freeing up space that allows us take in the next animal waiting outside our door, sometimes literally.
Fostering catches animals shelters can't properly help. New-born kittens, animals recovering from surgery, dogs too anxious to cope with kennel noise — these are exactly the cases where a quiet spare room does more good than the best-equipped shelter ever could.
It's temporary, and that's the point. Fostering isn't a lesser commitment than adoption — it's a different one. Most foster placements last two to six weeks, just long enough to get an animal ready for its actual forever home, without asking anyone to commit to a lifetime up front.
You don't need experience, just space and patience. We provide food, supplies, and vet cover for every foster animal — what we need from you is a spare corner of your home and a bit of your evening.
If you've ever thought "I'd love to help, but I can't commit to a pet full-time," fostering might be exactly the gap you've been looking for. Get in touch to find out what's needed this month — we always have animals waiting.
